ECDIS Basics Training Course

This is the first training course created for officers who are looking for an easy-to-follow supplement or refresher to the IMO generic course (IMO Model Course 1.27) and anyone requiring knowledge of the general features of ECDIS.

ECDIS has become an essential tool for every watchkeeping officer, who must, in turn, develop a sound knowledge of its limitations and possibilities, including its strengths and weaknesses.

ECDIS is a highly complex and sophisticated system, which has been developed over several decades. Besides navigational functions, ECDIS includes components of a computer-based information system, delivering a real-time display of the navigator‘s ship position with reference to the surrounding sea area.

The training course is based on the book „ECDIS Basics“, written by Professor Ralph Becker-Heins and provides an
interactive and intuitive means to acquire this knowledge online.
